I can’t draw, read tarot cards, or figure out my family tree. My real girlfriend would be angry and confused if I let myself out to strangers as a Facebook girlfriend. I’m also afraid of fire. Still, I’ve been selling my services (called “gigs”) on Fiverr for a while, getting work for my portfolio and a small amount of secondary income. I also met some interesting and even weird people, which I will describe in the next section. This is how I think Fiverr can help you build your career as a copywriter.
1. Be More Confident being Copywriter:
You can be whoever you want on Fiverr. Links to personal websites are not allowed. Use username instead of real name. You can host a gig and say you’re writing a 300-word article or blog post for $5 and people will pay you. I set up a job like this and so far I’ve written about schools in Houston, how to make beer at home, and various city guides. Once a man asked me to write a copy of a product he sold called “Personal Bioprotectants.” This is a little green thing that users wear on their bodies to prevent harmful signals from electrical equipment from disturbing their minds. You can offer to write a press release or rewrite the lyrics as a gig. People will buy your gig because they can risk $5 for something they don’t know, and if it’s your best work, you’ll have a great example to use in another market.
2. Start Your Wallet:
When your mother reads what you write, her knees go limp. cool. big. But wait. Clients who may hire you want to see your work. You can get help from Fiverr. I am offering a gig of writing text for a website. I wrote direct sales emails for a used caravan site, a copy of a flyer for a band playing a cover of a Marillion song (Similarillion), and dozens of cell phone product descriptions. When I was looking for freelance writing work, I put it first because it shows how good a writer I am. Even if you only sell one of these gigs a week, this is still a new piece that you can use to improve your style and add to your portfolio.
3. Find Out How To Market Yourself:
A great way to find buyers for as a Copywriter is to view buyer requests on Fiverr. For example, if you’re writing a press release, type those words into the search bar and dozens of people will ask for the press release. All you need to do is click a button and buyers will see your show. Fiverr only allows you to send automated, generic responses to these requests. However, I’ve found that you can get around this by going to your Fiverr inbox, finding the automated email, and sending a follow-up email in your own words explaining why you should be doing the job.
4. Earn Money:
Instead of a massive influx, the funds poured in slowly through Fiverr. Even the guy who sold “I’ll show you a foolproof way to make a best-selling gig for $5” only made a dozen sales. My bushel of gigs on Fiverr paid for my food. I generally view the work I do on Fiverr as an investment in the future. For example, if I think a buyer might have more jobs for me in the future, I would choose a low paying job and offer him more money. I got my first freelance job because I was doing a low-paying web copy on Fiverr. The developer who hired me is still emailing me for a copy. I hope it will continue. This low paying job has now become a higher paying job outside of Fiverr.
5. Get Referrals:
When customers are happy with your service, they leave warm compliments that will make your little heart glow. is not it great? Don’t be shy, put it all over your website. Tell others how happy your previous customers were.
Fiverr won’t make you rich. You will find that you have to do a lot of work for very little in return. If you want to become a copywriter like me, this is a great place to try and do some work for your portfolio. If you work hard, you might get better than Fiverr as you get better, but it’s not a bad place to start.
